Remember the day, oh mighty, when you sleep and wake no more
When your wealth and power crumble, when you stand at death’s dark door
You who revel in their weeping, who oppress the poor and weak
You, who strip them of their dignity, now hear the words I speak.
Death comes in many guises, none can predict its hand
From a whispered breath to a silent sting, it sweeps across the land
You who boast of your dominion, who take pride in others' pain
Think of the day when maggots feast, and none can break the chain.
The one who is cautious of insect bites will be consumed by decay
Powerless to fend off the worms, as they silently eat away.
You who bask in your clean appearance, your robes so rich and grand,
Will smell of rot and ruin, despite your prior stand.
Whether buried deep or burned to ash, or left to decompose
In death, we all are equal, our helpless state exposed
No more the strut of arrogance, no more the cruel command
When death's dark veil envelops you, your power turns to sand.
Your castles built with ill-gotten gains, your towers touching skies
Will crumble into ruins, as time unveils your lies
Think and rethink, oh grasping one, who hoards and never shares
Who delights in others' suffering, who revels in their despair
The cries of those you’ve silenced, the tears of those you’ve shamed
Will echo through the ages, and your legacy defamed
The wealth you’ve garnered through deceit, the power you’ve amassed
Will count for naught when death arrives, your breath will be your last.
You will face that final hour, you will bow before the grave
The ones you deemed beneath you, the ones you scorned and waived
Will watch as you are lowered down, into the earth’s embrace
And nature’s forces claim you, without a trace of grace.
The hands that built your empire, the backs on which you stood
Will rise to see you fall, their spirits understood
The mothers and the fathers, the daughters and the sons
Will find in your demise the justice for what’s been done to them.
Remember the day, oh strong one, when you will breathe your last
When your heart stops to breathe, and your eyes will close for good
For in the silence of the grave, no riches can you bring
No power can you wield, no songs of praise to sing.
The ones you kept in nakedness, will bathe you in your nakedness
Paid for their service by your wealth, their faces you will spurn
The ones you scorn and spit upon, will dig your final grave
And as they cover you up with soil, there’s no soul to save.
Think of the day when all your pride, and all your boasts will fade
When death lays claim upon your life, and your debts are fully paid
For in the end, we all return to where we first began
From nothing to nothing, dust to dust, the outcome of every man.
In your grand halls of marble, in your chambers filled with gold
The silence of your absence will be stark and cold
No longer will your voice command, no longer will you reign
For death has come to equalize, to balance out the pain.
Remember the day, oh mighty, when you sleep and wake no more
When your wealth and power crumble, when you stand at death’s dark door
You who revel in their weeping, who oppress the poor and weak
You, who strip them of their dignity, now hear the words I speak.
For I, too, am mortal, bound to dust, a day will come for me
When breath will cease, and I’ll be gone, no longer here to see
What impact will my actions have, what legacy will I leave?
As I ponder on my final breath, I can only hope and believe.
That in the days I have ahead, I’ll choose the righteous path
And leave behind a legacy, that withstands time’s wrath
For when I face the final moment, and breathe my last breath
I hope my deeds of kindness will be what’s most enjoyed.
Death is but a silent shadow, creeping ever near
A constant, unseen companion, instilling quiet fear
It takes the old, the young, the rich, the poor alike
And leaves behind the broken hearts, the tears, the endless night.
No matter how we fortify, no matter how we plan
Death will find its way to us, the eventuality of every man
It does not heed our status, it does not know our name
In death, we are all equal, our endings just the same.
So, remember the day of death, oh mighty, oh supreme
When you shall face your reckoning, when you shall end your dream
The power you so cherished, the riches you amassed
Will be but dust and memories, as fleeting as the past.
The day will come when all you own will be left behind
The treasures and the trophies, the chains that once confined
And in that final moment, when breath begins to cease
You’ll find no comfort in your gold, no solace, no release.
Then, the lives you’ve scarred, will watch as you descend
Into the earth’s cold embrace, your power meets its end
Their voices will rise up in song, a chorus of release
For justice has been served at last, their suffering at peace.
I, too, will face that final day, when my time here is done
I’ll leave behind all that I've worked for, and join the lifeless world
And as I think upon my life, the choices that I’ve made
I’ll hope that I’ve been kind enough to those who’ve crossed my path.
For in the end, it’s not the wealth, the power, nor the fame,
But the kindness and the love we give, that defines our name.
So, remember the day of death, oh mighty, remember and take heed
For in the end, it’s love that counts, it’s love that plants the seed.
The seed of hope, the seed of joy, the seed of lasting peace
The seed that blooms in memory, when our earthly days cease
So, live your life with kindness, let love be your guide
For when you face that final day, it’s love that will abide.
Hear my song, oh mighty! Heed this call
For in the end and in our last, there is no wealth, no power
No work, no knowledge, nor wisdom, can save us from the fall
Remember the day, oh mighty, remember, and seek the light.
